Admas - Sons of Ethiopia
A truly amazing LP!
After years of speculation and rumours, the reissue is here, and it sounds sooo good!
Created by a group of friends (Teddy, Abegasu, Henock & Yousef) living and studying in Washington DC, this album was totally ahead of it's time, drawing on traditional Ethiopian songs with a futuristic electronic flair that perhaps is only really now reaching the larger audience it always deserved. We especially love this LP as it was created and released many years after the much talked about ‘golden era’ of Ethiopian music.
Back in 1984 in the US the band self funded this album (much respect to the band member Teddy, for knowing their worth and not signing away the ownership, and kudos to his Mum for lending them the $ they needed then to release it). Only 1000 records were pressed and just 200 copies sold, the band members don’t know where the spare copies ended up over the years or where they reached. We have a love/hate relationship with collecting 'rare' Ethiopian records (more on that another time) but when the outcome is like this it feels like a win win all round... spread the music!..and we’re sure this time it’ll reach more homes and ears!❤️
