Alemayehu Eshété - ETHIOPIAN URBAN MODERN MUSIC VOL.2
The late great Alèmayèhu Eshèté, one of the greatest voices of the golden era of modern Ethiopian music, from the swinging sixties until the fall of the Emperor Haile Sellassie in 1974 and beyond. Gash Alèmayèhu Eshèté for us is a personal favourite, a big character, we loved his moves as much as his voice, he performed pretty much right up until his passing in 2021.
Alèmayèhu was the first artist to record with the legendary Ahma Eshèté (no relation), recording on his Ahma record label, a label that would go on to feature hit after hit for Alèmayèhu and become fundamental for so many artists, shaping the golden era of Ethiopian music.
Whilst Alèmayèhu Eshèté had the ability to record beautifully haunting tracks, this LP is full of what he was perhaps best known for, big tunes to dance to!…including our favourites, Feqer Feqer New, Addis Abeba Bete and Yeweyn Haregitu… if we had to choose!
