This is not only an absolute favourite album of ours but also of Hailu Mergia himself! We were so honoured to get some time with him recently to do an interview, and when we asked, 'What's your favourite album?' he said, 'Wede Harer Guzo, I love that sound, I still love it!'

Recorded in 1978, this album marked a slight shift in style from what had come before with Hailu's usual band, The Walias Band. Instead, Hailu recorded with The Dahlak Band, the house band at the time at the Ghion Hotel in Addis Ababa. The result is a joyous, uplifting, and soulful album that, back in the day, was available only on cassette. We've never come across an original copy of the cassette, so it's thanks to Awesome Tapes from Africa that this wonderful music lives on for all to enjoy.
