Mulatu Astatke - The Story of Ethio Jazz 1965-1975
£31.00
Essential album!
Quite possibly the best of gash Mulatu Astake on one album covering his work from 1965-1975. This double LP highlights the time when he studied abroad in both the UK at Trinity College of Music and in the US at Berklee College of Music. An important period where he recorded tracks in London and New York as well as Addis Abeba, developing his unique Ethio Jazz sound before returning home to become a key figure in the ‘Swinging Addis’ scene working with the likes of Menelik Wossenatchew, Tilahun Gessesse and Muluken Melesse.
Big tunes feature throughout this wonderful LP including, Yèkèrmo Sèw, the anthem Yegelle Tezeta, and the calming tranquility of Ené Alantchie Alnorem as well as our favourite Tezeta (Tizita).
